Tonight I just watched the latest documentary from LPB. My wife recently read Danny Heitman's account of James Audubon's time in Louisiana, A Summer of Birds upon which it is based.

From The LPB website:

"Based on the acclaimed book A Summer of Birds: John James Audubon at Oakley House by The Baton Rouge Advocate columnist Danny Heitman, the documentary chronicles the summer of 1821 which he spent in Louisiana at the Oakley Plantation in West Feliciana Parish.'"

Not merely a biographical sketch of the seminal time Audubon spent in Lousiana, it is a love letter to Louisiana, its natural beauty and wildlife. Most particularly it is a love letter to Saint Francisville. The beauty, culture and heritage of this unique place is beautifully and respectfully shown. The trees, the waterways; the ravines and ridges; the homes, the people and most spectacularly, the birds.

It replays again at 7PM CST on Sunday Dec. 6th, and is heartily recommended.
